HH_Arena - Two Maps (1 MB) | 7/30/01
Level Designers Dave Halsted and Mike Flynn have created two very cool maps for your pleasure. A ReadMe file comes with the zip, so check it out to learn more.

AR-SlomoArena
Author: Dave Halsted, Human Head Studios
Description: AR-SlomoArena was made with slow motion fighting in mind. The distance between the spawn zones and the queue zone are very short to get people into the action as fast as possible. The arena itself is also shrunk so that the slomo battles are just as intense and fast as they are on maps meant for regular speed. The choreography that happens is awesome.

AR-Lucid
Author: Mike Flynn, Human Head Studios
Description: AR-Lucid has some unique features: it has Runes; more powerful weapons and shields unlock as the game progresses; new areas to explore and also unlock; and a secret or two.

DM-DeepUnder (484.5 KB) | 1/4/01
Level Designer Dave Halsted has unleashed an original creation he calls DM-DeepUnder. Now DM-DeepUnder can be played in two ways: with traditional weapon-spawns or in its unique intended mode where players must kill enemy creatures to obtain bigger weapons and earn bonus powerups. At the start of play, players can't hurt each other and any player can choose which mode the map will play in by hitting one of two marked pumps located in the center of the map. NOTE: in order to play with creatures, the server machine's Rune.ini file must be changed under [RuneI.RuneMultiPlayer] to bNoMonsters=FALSE and bHumansOnly=FALSE - otherwise creatures won't appear.

DM-Sanctum and DM-Rotarena (1 meg) | 1/3/01
Level Designer Mick "VerMoorD" Beard has finished two new maps for your combat pleasure. "DM-Sanctum" is a conversion of his Unreal/Quake3 map of the same name, and "DM-Rotarena" is a small 1-on-1 Honor Match map situated in a suspended rotating Arena...grab both maps in one Zipfile!

DM-Glacier by Chris 'Plutonic' Blundell
DM-Glacier is a small map for 2 to 6 players. It is a ruined temple set on a plateau on the edge of a deep precipice. An encroaching glacier has crushed one end of the temple. The map incorporates a range of game play environments, including an open area for duels and more confined spaces for running battles.

Once every year warriors from across Midgard brave the treacherous weather of winter solstice to travel to the ruined temple of Ullr - a god of winter. The temple rests at the base of a glacier, which marks the entrance to Ullr's domain. The perilous environment and the harsh conditions of the ruins make it an ideal location for a test of strength and courage. Now as the glacier gradually reclaims the temple, the torches are lit one final time for the greatest test of all: who is the one true warrior?

DM-Warlock by Mike 'Oriain' Ryan
This map represents a sancutary for the weary warlock - someplace to relax in after a long day of evildoings and necromancy. It's a straightforward deathmatch map with three main levels that converge in a tall central room filled with overlapping walkways. Skylights bring in some pinkish daylight to offset the mystic flames that fill the halls with a pale blue light. There are two secret areas in this map - one that's very obvious and one that (hopefully) isn't *quite* as obvious. The most powerful weapon in the map is the Dwarven Battle Hammer. You'll also find Sigard's Axe and the Dwarven Work Sword, but mostly the armament consists of Viking Axes, Viking Broad Swords, Goblin Axes and Roman Swords. There are three Rune of Power Refills and one Rune of Health. Several lizards, fruits, steins & Legs-O-Meat (tm) supply the healing and you'll also run across a bunch of shields scattered around. The "books" should not be too difficult to identify, but if they cause any sort of copyright issues they can very easily be swapped for a less distinct texture I made using actual books (with unreadable titles).

DM-Wendol by Mike 'Oriain' Ryan
A good, old-fashioned tavern map for good, old-fashioned Viking mayhem! Actually, the map draws its inspiration from the movie 'Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon' -- I wanted to recreate the great bar fighting scene from the movie, where the young sword mistress takes on like 20 guys & beats them all senseless. More to the point, I wanted to take the idea of a mostly-wooden (i.e., smash-able) tavern and transplant it into Rune, so that players could break & mess with tons of stuff. At the same time, I wanted to include some items that not only broke, but changed the landscape and affected the flow of the map as they did so. A few of the breakable items in the map vanish in a cloud of debris, but most stick around, changing the basic layout of the map as a result.

The title? Well, I wasn't able to fully recreate the look, feel & dynamic atmosphere of the scene from Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, so I decided to name the tavern in this map 'The Crouching Wendol' as sort of a tribute to the map's inspiration. The map plays well with 3-6 people - and is surprisingly fun with only 2 -- and has 8 PlayerStarts in place. More than 6-8, though, and things will probably get crowded. Ideally, games on this map would be short (10 frags or something) so that the breakable stuff can reset with the start of a new game.
