Exclamation Rune Mappers Contest

A Rune Mappers Contest has officially started.

The final rules still must be written, but mappers can start their projects right now.

At the moment, the prize is a MilkSaphape 3d, but more prizes are on the way.
The jury members list is growing and will be a mixed team of mappers and of old players with at least a 2-3 years expirience.

I consider this contest as a test too, if all goes well new and different contests will be on the way.

WTF... Dude no offense, but some people are trying hard to make this a good contest, ESPECIALLY menjin. He put alot of time into it. WHO cares about the prizes in your contest? Please feel free to participate in this one and try to improve it, otherwise stay away with your comments. In this special situation I think they are inappropriate and not appreciated (even if it was meant as a joke).

Yeah comments like that: completely useless and meaning nothing. And dude, Im not mad or something
I am completely calm, so I dont need any "chill pills", just trying to explain some obvious things to you. Think about that.

P.S with this post this issue is over for me. Because Im not willing to start any fight /flame war here. Never intended to. I told you above, "No offense meant".

Menjin is a great person for organising this for everyone. It is alot of work and planning which I am proud to have been chosen to be a part of.

I plan to support him in everyway that I can

And to Hawk, go suck a lemon

P.S: I believe prizes will be updated. We had many ideas for prizes. It's just a matter of seeing the interest that people will have in the contest

Great Laurie, thanks very much

I suggest to check the Rune Mappers Contest pages time to time becouse of it will have few updates till 24 July.

IMPORTANT: Signing up until 01 August 2004 to the contest is necessary!

We should expect that people maybe in vacation during the Signing up period. So maybe we will change the date, but this will be a last minute annunce, do not expect it for sure.

btw, the website was down for few hours becouse of mantainance and the changement of few FTP parameters, I apologize for any drawback occured.

Uh yeah, if the map is played TDM (I assume all maps are planned to be played as such, since most of the servers run TDM anyway), could there be some group of players to test it and give their opinion to the judges. If so, I have a suggestion of people who could test those private and give out an explanation how things work in their opinion. Like team winning last years RWC tournament or something. -wink-

The jury team is still growing, I'm waiting for replays and confirmetions. In the same time I/we have still not contacted people that would be good to have in the jury team.
Your suggestions are and will be really appriciate. Thanks in advance

Of course DM maps are intended to be TDM too, as are planned to be in the game itself.

All are welcome to join. However I think you should start a new map especially for the contest. But noone can force you of course, but you are very welcome to participate.

is the map only going to be played in game, or is it going to be looked at within the editor too?

each map will be judge by the editor side as by the game side: design, style, ambient, gameflow, lighting, sound, brush model, BSP, framerate, etc etc ...

plus, for a better judge, there is a mixed team of mappers and players,
every judge will have his own unique way to judge the maps too, as is in every right jury,
each one has at least 2-3 years expiriece with the game

editor side + game side + personal side will produce the final results

Is this contest just limited to DM/TDM maps?? If so, why?? This pretty much excludes the large number of mappers that specialize in making Arena and Headball maps. Also, what about maps for custom gametypes, such as Capture the Torch, Jailbreak, etc.???

Later!

This contest is strictly for DM maps category.

If all goes well, this will be the first of a Rune Contests Series, that will take place time to time with new and differents themes about the Rune game. Maybe next time will be for Siege, or CTT, or AR, ... or a skinners contest, or weapons, or wallpapers, or or or ...

Allowing any type of maps will make impossible to judge the entryes. How to compare a DM with an AR or HB? or a JailBreak with a CTT? or Siege with ShadowRules?
A contest with many categoryes woulded be good if was made yearly. The intentions are differents

Custom stuffs and special effects will be judged strictly withing what is expected by a DM map.
Exessive cutomization breaking the gameflow maybe a bad choise, but this is a risk up to the mappers.

Wish I would have checked here a bit sooner.

Are we limited to just one entry per person or may we submit multiple entries for this contest?

Thanks.

I'm sure that can be arranged...

Doubt you'll have the stamina to go through with it though, once you open RuneED and remember how horrible it was. :eyebrow:
