Ok, i just purchased Rune a few days ago, i installed it, updated to 1.07 patch, and whenever i try to join a game, it says 1 of 3 things, server version is outdated, unable to download HallsOfValhalla or the map name, or i need a password..

are there no servers that work for the original Rune???

Nobody runs plain rune anymore. You need to buy or download hov.

there are not usually many passworded servers, so once you have hov you should be able to join everything.

There are 2 main camps in Rune: HOV players and 1.00-1.02 players. HOV is 1.06-1.07 compatible but almost everyone who uses 1.07 has bought HOV for the extra maps, textures, modles, and game playes. About 75% if all players in Rune now use HOV. Chaos and a few other servers still play 1.00-1.02 and those are the servers stating that they are out dated.

Best bet is to HOV. The "Halls of Valhalla" Package is part of HOV.

If you want orginal Rune only, then best bet is to stay 1.01 and play on Chaos, some 420, Zaphirs and a few other servers that still play 1.01. Again most people play HOV so get that.

Lol, you need to reinstall the game and not install any patches at all, or MAYBE patch 1.01, but then you probably won't get to join servers running maps such as Thorstadt and Hel, because of some mismatch error.

Reinstall, and browse the "populated servers" tab.. ("All servers" shows both games in original Rune and 'Halls of Valhalla' (addon).

Hello Agent!

You can reinstall the game as Original 1.00 and upgrade it with the 1.01 patch. That should help with mismatching of some Thorstadt and Hel maps.

What will happen if you do though, it the reinstall will take over your "Startup" Rune. All you need to do there is place an icon in your desktop to access your RUNE 1.06/1.07. This is what I had to do.

With this RUNE, though, you can download the RUNE Coop and install it in that folder....it will ONLY work in the RUNE 1.06/1.07 version. The coop is the full game with some changes, renovations and some maps are left alone for Cooperative Play with friends. Or you can play it offline as another version..There are some extra monsters and the difficulty is high.

You can also get Sarkball.....sort of like a RUNE "Hockey" with swords and tossing a dwarf. The AI is actually very good and fun to play with others.

You can also go over to Twofer's website to download his TR Rune Racing Mod/mutators and some maps. Always being tested his server have small downloadable maps where you can fly on various animals (from the game) and Fight! He has a mutator that will bring your movement back to the "Old Style" while in these maps. Again, very small downloads.

Kalcorps' VAS/VUR mutators can be found at his website or at SecretLabs. These can be used in either Original RUNE or with the upgrade or with HOV. These were originally made for a RUNE RPG that is still being worked (as far as I know). New and different monsters, experience points, spells, powerups a whole new experience to play. Online or in maps offline.

Elite_Ravager made a "Contra" Mod you can play in the RUNE maps......Fun, if you dont mind standing back and shooting at everything. But there is an Alien mutator that you can get....they shoot back.

MODS, there have been several made....like "Jailbreak", "Seige", Coop, Viking Raid, CTT, and others are still in the works, like DungeonMaster.


Maps. There are several places you can go to get them. If you play in 1.00/1.01 , you might want to go over to the 420 clansite and get their "Mappacks" to play in their servers. These have been altered abit with different mutators and fun to run around in with the guys.

You can go to Secretlabs or Ru Nation to get maps too. Most can be used in all of the RUNE versions.....except for any AR or HB maps. These are for HOV only. There are several Rune Clans/Hordes that make their own maps, like the "=INI=". Worth looking around and picking some of these up. Always check the map listings and if you see one that you do not have.....go get it. Cuts down on the wait.

When you look into the "Populated servers", when you click on a server, check below to see what the server supports....it will say RUNE 1.00/1.01 or 1.02 (European version) Rune 1.06/1.07 or HoV only.

Original movement vs Arcade (RUNE 1.06/1.07/HoV) It depends on what you prefer. Both have their points. Although the Arcade has a large following, you will find plenty of Original Style adherents too. There are always new RUNE players in the original servers, who never played the other style yet. Why limit yourself.

However, after playing the newer style and getting pretty good at it....be warned, going back will just might set you back to "zero" until you get familar with it again.

Both of the above, you will find playing in RUNE 1.00/1.01/1.02 servers. But the maps may can be used in any server version.

"Runiversum" is a German RUNE website with a couple of Map packs you might want to get. They also have Seige and the Mua long/short fuse mutator.

Take those maps out of your map folder and dl the ones off the server.

there is also a mismatch in the "village" texture set. Or that's what I get..
