Question Warp zones

how many can you have at once and yet still have the effect of being able to see the other side of the warpzone through the one you are facing?

While I have no earthly idea, I would imagine the number to be whatever your system can handle at once. You have to consider just how much power its gonna take to make warp zones you can see through to the other side.

I guess it really depends on how many names you can come up with to match the warp zone triggers, which technically is infinite if you are using numbers

And remember, if you are making this map for more than just your own personal benefit, then keep the number of how many low... not everyone has a good computer.

I dunno, what kind of system are you doing this on? I have a P4 2.26GHz with 768MB of PC800 RAM with an ATI Radeon 9600 All-in-Wonder. If you have a system close to this and the game starts to lag up, then you've got too many. I suppose the key here would be to set up specific zones and make it so your PC doesn't render the warp zones when you aren't in the room or close to where the warp is. That could make it a LOT better on lower-end systems....

A warp zone is a "zone" which "warps" you to another "zone."

You enter the "sending zone", it warps you to the area you have designated the "receiving zone."

Technically speaking, you can have them warp back and forth.

I did it before a LONG LONG time ago in a map I still have yet to finish... it was a cool multiplayer map I called "Mystic Training"

What, you mean they aren't the same thing? I just figured they were...

If they are different, then please let me know ASAP because, well, I'll have to play around with it for a while.

Otherwise, yeah, its the same thing, just different terminology. Personally, "warp zone" is easier to type than "teleport zone".

warpzone is an actual zone...you can see the other side if looking through one...the teleport zone just teleports you when you enter...technically it's less system choking and easier to use.

Yeah, I think Human Head used a teleport zone in their game, and just used a texture with water properties to make it look like some kind of special warp at the end of the game.

Thats what I would have done

But honestly, if you are going to do warp zones, please please follow my suggestions on the rooms and zone areas... don't kill the map before its even released by "choking" up the computer's resources!

.... be gentle....
