Ragnarok Blood Fest 2009 -Rune Tournament
After discussions with some JuNN & ToR leadership, I have decided to host a great Rune tournament. Details for the event will be announced in September. The event will be held in December, probably beginning during the 2nd week. There will be 1vs1 / 2vs2 / 4vs4 AR events. There will be FFA DM and TDM events. Hoping to add a low-cal event and a Headball match. There will be prizes awarded to the winners and a grand prize (high end videocard) will be awarded to overall winner.
The JuNN & ToR will provide servers and a website is under construction (Thanks White-JuNN-) for registration, brackets and match results. Because of several clans being involved, it will not be a DMI sponsored event. All prizes will be donated by me. I am thinking custom T-Shirts for the team events and a high end wireless gaming laser mouse as another top prize. I will need people to arbitrate matches to ensure fair gameplay and sportsmanship are observed. I can't make this work by myself and will need help. This time, the tournament will be completed because the prizes will help maintain interest, also those who register will have to commit to time and dates. Teams will have alternates on standby to deal with no shows. I'm still working out the details, but will post again concerning this matter soon. When the website is ready, Laurie will make this a Rune News item and it will have a link for people to begin registration. Plenty of time to practice.... MEANBONE! It's time to dust off that sword and try to win another video card! Any ideas or suggestions should be sent to kdkokila@hotmail.com // Hoping that that the European Rune community will organize a similar event to commemorate Rune's 9th anniversary. [DMI]{^Terminus^}

Theres actually an european tournament right now, but have you considered making it for the whole rune community? Hov of course, I mean, both sides of the sea, I for one would like to compete against american players, even if we were the only european team, I guess you could get a bunch of euro server to use aswell as the americans

I debated this with myself for a very long time. I decided that only players in the Americas, Canada, Caribean would be allowed to register. The reason is that the time differentials and server logistics, were going to make including international players a real challenge. We need this tournament to succeed, so I made this very hard decision to give the event the highest possibility of success. If we started to have too many scheduling issues, no shows, and the like...the tournament would be cancelled; like nearly all others we have organized on our end.
Hoping my European friends understand, and I do hope your current tournament is a smashing success. If things go really well, and the tournament is completed; next year's 10th anniversary tournament may truly be an international event with bigger prizes and sponsorships. [DMI]{^Terminus^}

To Laurie and all inactive Runers
Thanks for making this preliminary announcement into a news item and taking the time to rework the information that I have provided thus far. Nothing is really set in stone yet, but interest in the event is fairly high considering that the tournament will not take place until the end of this year. One of the biggest reasons I posted here was to encourage former players of Rune to reinstall the game. There is plenty of time to practice and regain skills needed to compete at a high level. It is no secret that the active players in our community are extremely talented and that returning players are going to have a tough time competing with them. That said, it's a mountain that I am climbing and I am beginning to have success. If I can do it, anyone can.
My biggest goal for the Ragnarok Blood Fest, is to revitalize the Rune community and encourage more former players to make their returns to online Rune. The atmosphere in the servers now is better than it has been in several years and what we most lack is people. By my estimate, there are no more than 250 active Runers worldwide. Some would say: "Why does this guy bother with this 9 year old game?" The answer is simple. Rune remains a unique and exceptional experience. I'm a hardcore gamer, I play them all. You name it and I have either played it or at least tried the demo. Nothing is like Rune and the likelyhood of a Rune 2 becomes more impossible with each passing year. I feel that it is time to embrace what we have. Frozn and the 1.09 project is a proactive approach to address problems and maximize the enormous potential that Rune always had. In all my travels on the internet, I never saw a group of more talented and dedicated individuals who have spent countless hours working to create the various enhancements that we still enjoy. Join us!

Greetings Attila,
I'll quote myself; "After discussions with some JuNN & ToR leadership", what I meant is that I talked to Serpent and White, and they are "some" JUNN. ToR Leadership refers to Frozn. White is constructing the website and all preparations are on track. Hoping we will be able to make official announcement by mid-Sept. It is planned to begin the tourney on December 11. I posted about this at JuNN website, ToR, and here. JuNN & ToR servers have been donated for this event. Currently I am trying to find a deal on t-shirts to be awarded to the winners of the team events and overall event winners. I project needing about 25 Ts and have not yet settled on a design, Hit me on MSN, and I'll show you what we have so far. Hail JuNN!!

Thanks for the good wishes Pilgrim. It was awesome joining you and the rest of the Crew Horde on those magnificent matches we had. Hoping to play in your server more often and find good HoV arena battles. It was fun for a change. Hail Crew!

Those fights were great. I just love 4 vs 4 on an arena.

Would be really great if we could organize a big tourney or something similar for both EU and NA players/clans. Even just something silly for fun. It's been a while since the two sides have had any action against each other. Heck, I think we have only played a euro-clan once in the last two years or so because lately they just refuse to play the second map on the US server and all leave after round one, heh. They used to be such better sports about the lag issues, too
![]() Hey Pilgrim! Still going by Dr.Slime or something else? I actually have been hitting the euro servers a bit more recently.. I'm not anywhere near as comfortable with the ping as I used to be though. I'm a tad spoiled on 30-80 ping in our servers, heh. |
